Why we built it

Desktop PDF software is often expensive, complicated and slow to update. Cloud-based converters ask you to upload your private files to a server you don't control. We built PDF Tools to be the simple middle path: powerful enough for real work, free for everyone, and private by design — no accounts, no queues, no watermarks and no daily limits.

How it works

Each tool is a self-contained web app. When you drop a file into the page, it is read by your browser and processed locally — PDF rendering, compression, OCR and format conversion all happen on your own computer. When the job finishes, the result is generated and downloaded directly. If the page is closed mid-task, nothing is left behind because nothing was ever sent anywhere.
